New York 5-hour Online Pre-Licensing Course Details
Per NYSDMV requirements, students intending to enroll in the 5-hour pre-licensing course online must be at least 18 years old, and have a valid photo learner permit.
The Course Fee is $49.00
You are required to have your Class D or M photo learner’s permit ready prior to registration to ensure that your personal information provided during registration, for example, your first and last name, date of birth, learner’s permit client ID, etc. are as they appear on your learner’s permit. The DMV will not give any credit to students that provide personal identity information which is different from that which appears on their learner’s permit. Students will not be able to register for their road test to obtain a driver’s license if the information provided upon registration differs from what is stated on their learner’s permit.
The NYS DMV requires that students complete the course within 30 days of registration. In addition, the NYS DMV requires that National Driving and Traffic School must exclude from the program all students who do not successfully complete the course, and those students shall forfeit the course fees.
Note that there is an exception: Students who fail to pass the “Student Identity and Participation Validation” processes within 30 days of registration will be allowed to re-enroll in the course without paying an additional course fee. Such students who re-enroll must complete the entire course.
The course curriculum is divided into 6 Lessons of instructions which are timed to ensure that students spent the legally required minimum time of 5-hours of instruction to be legally considered as having completed the course.
Students are required to take “Content Quizzes” at the end of each lesson and achieve an acceptable score of 70 % before being permitted to advance to the next lesson. Students may not advance to take “Content Quizzes” for each lesson until the total minimum time requirement for that lesson has been met. There is no final exam requirement.
National Driving and Traffic School is legally required by the NYS DMV to verify that a student who registers for the course is the “Sole Person” who takes and passes the “Student Identity, Participation and Time Validation” processes throughout the course. The student is reminded that there will be legal penalties for any fraudulent activities when participating in the course.
The NYS DMV requires that students complete a “Course Evaluation Questionnaire” to enable an evaluation by the NYS DMV on the use of the internet for the administration of the New York State Pre-Licensing Course. Students must complete the “Course Evaluation Questionnaire” before their completion of the course is reported to the NYS DMV.
Once students complete the required instruction time of 300 minutes (5 hours), pass all lesson “Content Quizzes”, pass all “Student Identity, Participation and Time Validation” processes, and complete the “Course Evaluation Questionnaire”, they will be considered as having successfully completed the course. Subsequently, the student will be informed of their course completion via an electronic notification within 24 hours of completion.
On students’ successful completion of the course, National Driving and Traffic School will report the completion to the NYS DMV via electronic means within 24 hours.
Note: It may take up to 24 to 48 hours for the course completion to be added to the student’s driver’s records, at which point students will be able to schedule an online Road Test with the NYS DMV.
National Driving and Traffic School will issue a duplicate notification of course completion to the student free of charge upon the student’s request.
Note that no duplicate notification of course completion will be issued more than one (1) year after completion of the course. The duplicate notification will have the same expiration date as the original.
Payment for the course can be made using a credit card, debit card, or via a check sent to National Driving and Traffic School’s address as shown on its website. National Driving and Traffic School ’s automated system will issue a receipt via electronic means on successful payment of the course fee by students. Note that the receipt issued is not proof of official course completion. The receipt will indicate that it is issued as evidence of course payment. Once issued, a receipt will be available online for students to print out, whenever needed.
A refund is not permitted by the NYS DMV to students if students are unable to complete the course within 30 days of registration. Students may re-register for a new course and complete the full course as initially required. National Driving and Traffic School may at its discretion not charge a full fee for such students who register for a new course. Instead, a fee of $10 for use of Biometric Technology services will be charged.
Students will be given an option of receiving a full refund of all course fees when National Driving and Traffic School is unable to provide the course or any part of the course. In addition to the option of a full refund, students will be given the opportunity to reschedule the course when it becomes available.
